ACP APPRENTICESHIP

Information for Clinical Supervisors of trainee ACP

It is essential that each trainee has a named clinical supervisor with the sufficient skills and capacity to support and mentor the trainee ACP (ideally with a teaching qualification, although this is not essential.) This can be a senior experienced ACP or medical colleague.

The Faculty for Advanced Practice has produced Best Practice standards for study leave and clinical supervision, a full version of which can be downloaded below. For primary care, where full supernumerary status is not possible, the Faculty recommends a minimum of 1 day per week protected study time and 1 day per week clinical supervision time for trainee ACPs.

The Faculty also recommends that all supervisors should complete the HEE e-learning module for Educational & Clinical Supervisors, which can be accessed below.
