The South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub is responsible for the coordination of GP placements for undergraduate nurses across South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw. We currently have over 70 practices in Doncaster, Bassetlaw, Rotherham, Barnsley & Sheffield signed up with us to host undergraduate nursing students on placement.
We are always looking to increase our numbers of placements across the patch and we are currently involved in exciting plans to organise GP placements for healthcare students from other disciplines. Hosting students can bring great benefits to your practice/PCN as well as to the students themselves, who get an introduction to primary care that may hopefully inspire them to see it as a potential career destination!
The Details:
Payment:
Practice receives £120 enhanced tariff per student, per week, claimable at the end of the placement. Practices can have more than one student, according to individual capacity.
Allocation:
Students are allocated by the local University, in conjunction with the South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub. Practices are usually asked to take at least 3 students over the course of one year, but this is flexible.
Requirements:
Practices need to meet a set of criteria designed to ensure that all placements are good quality. An audit of the practice needs to be undertaken by the University Link Lecturer for the practice area and the practice is then added to the PARE database of educational placements. The practice must sign an LDA (Learning Development Agreement) with the Hub, to agree a commitment to providing a quality placement for undergraduate students.
Support:
The Training Hub can support your practice to meet the above requirements by providing the following:
- support to meet the requirements to become a Training Practice
- advice on training for Practice Supervisor/ Practice Assessor status
- signposting to University Link Lecturing teams for specific course-related queries
- advice & support on using the online PARE placements database
- advice on using MYE-PAD for student assessment
- signposting to Transition updates for Mentors who need training up to the new NMC standards for supervision and assessment
- regular Practice Supervisor/ Practice Assessor updates in conjunction with University Link Lecturing teams
